This Gardenia is one of the few plants that have not lost their smell in the intensive process of cross-fertilisation and refinement by growers. Which is good, for its perfume really is fantastic.
In the wild Gardenia is a shrub-shaped plant, bigger and more of a bush. Some species grow up to a few meters large, but your Jasmine species is much more compact by nature.
This dark-green plant with its deeply shiny leaves and its fragrant white flowers is extremely talented when it comes to pleasing the human senses.
After you buy your Gardenia - or after it is given to you - you had best place it on a light spot in your living room, so that the transition from the greenhouse to your house is not too abrupt. After the night frost has passed, in early spring, you can bring it outside. It can sit in the sun, but be careful with the full light of the sun around noon. You might need to place it somewhere sheltered for a while in mid-summer.
