Amelanchier Obelisk
What more could you ask for from a spring-flowering plant? This new variety of Amelanchier is going to be extremely popular, and we're delighted to be able to offer our customers the chance to purchase it direct.
Amelanchier alnifolia "Obelisk" is a magnificent small deciduous tree with an upright, slender shape, allowing you the opportunity to give your garden some 'height interest' without it taking over! After 5 years it will reach approximately 3 - 4 metres.
The tree has dark green, almost circular leaves which change to yellow in the autumn, and during late/April/early May the stems are covered in white flowers, sometimes turning into edible berries in autumn. Its skeleton is an attractive shape, even during the winter when the branches are bare. In small gardens, it is particularly useful to purchase plants with more than one season of interest, to make the most of the space, and this tree fits the bill perfectly.
It will thrive in any position or soil type, and looks great as part of a border display or as a specimen plant in a lawn or gravel bed. Just soak it well before planting, dig a large hole, add some compost or well-rotted manure below and around the rootball as you plant in weed-free soil. Firm in and water well for a year or so while its root system is establishing, and you will be rewarded with a beautiful display. There is no need to prune this plant, as it forms a compact shape by itself.
